Report: The impact of COVID-19 on APPA members and the Australasian promotional products industry

To better understand the impact of COVID-19 on the promotional products industry in Australia and New Zealand, APPA conducted a voluntary survey of its members throughout June 2020. In this survey, members were asked questions about their sales results, future sales expectations, business confidence and business operations during the pandemic.

The results from the survey reveal the extent of the damage inflicted by the pandemic on APPA members and the wider industry.

Key findings include:

  • The industry has suffered a 51 percent decrease in business revenue compared to 2019.
  • More than 60 percent of members expect sales to improve over the next three months (July - September 2020).
  • Businesses are adapting to the new environment by readjusting their focus to other areas of their organisation. More than 67 percent of survey respondents reported spending more time on marketing/image while 57 percent reported spending time improving their internal systems during the quieter sales months.
