Account Manager | Wholesale Apparel & Promotional

Sales. Dedicated support. Established brands behind you.

The sales role for the Australian arm of a large wholesale apparel distributor with more than twenty years of trading history in New Zealand.

We supply promotional companies, corporate uniform suppliers, screen printers, embroiderers and corporate clients with brands including Result, Urban Collab, UFlex, Headwear 24 and PremSub. Our New Zealand business holds roughly a fifth of its market. Australia is where the next stage of growth sits, and we are building the team to go after it properly. You get the stability of an established business behind you with the pace of an operation still being built.

Why work for us?

  • A market leading service reputation, we are known for sorting problems quickly
  • Quality range from workwear through to premium headwear and custom sublimation
  • Competitive pricing with strong margins to work with
  • Financial and operational backing from an established New Zealand parent
  • An established customer base with real room to grow

The role

We are looking for an experienced Account Manager to take ownership of an existing Australian customer portfolio and grow it. This is a sales role, and we mean that literally. You are not processing orders, briefing branding houses or booking freight. You have a dedicated offshore Sales Support Coordinator who handles order entry, production coordination and logistics, backed by our New Zealand production, branding and warehousing teams. Your job is customers. You will inherit accounts that already trade with us, deepen them, and open new ones across promotional companies, uniform suppliers, decorators and corporate clients. When something needs sorting operationally you hand it over and get back in front of the next customer.

What you will be doing:

Account management

  • Manage and grow an established portfolio across all Australian states
  • Hold retention above 95% through service and relationships that stick
  • Identify upsell and cross-sell opportunities across our brand range
  • Own the commercial conversation, including pricing and margin
  • Step in early on your accounts before small issues become complaints

New business development

  • Win 24 to 36 new accounts in your first year across VIC, NSW, QLD, SA, WA and TAS
  • Target promotional companies (including APPA members), uniform suppliers, screen printers, embroiderers, corporate clients and government
  • Deliver a $1.37M sales target at a 35% gross profit margin through the right product mix
  • Build and work your own pipeline
  • Represent Premium Apparel at trade shows and industry events Territory and travel
  • All of Australia, with around 70% of your focus on VIC, NSW and QLD
  • Travel around 3 days per week on average, roughly 50 to 60% of your time

Working with your support

  • Hand over agreed orders cleanly, with spec, pricing and timeline confirmed
  • Keep your coordinator informed so nothing gets guessed at
  • Stay the point of contact for the relationship while they run the execution
  • Reporting back to weekly sales meetings with your wins and losses

What we are looking for:

Essential

  • Three to five years in wholesale apparel or promotional products sales
  • Track record in both growing existing accounts and winning new ones
  • Solid grasp of B2B sales cycles and gross margin, you sell on value rather than discount
  • Clear communicator, because your sales support can only act on what you tell them
  • Australian work rights, a current driver's licence and comfortable with 50 to 60% travel
  • Based in Australia, VIC, NSW or QLD preferred

Highly desirable

  • Existing relationships within APPA or the wider promotional products industry
  • Experience selling to screen printers, embroiderers or uniform suppliers
  • Understanding of decoration and branding workflows, enough to scope a job properly with a customer
  • Experience working with remote or offshore support
  • CRM proficiency

The person who does well here

  • Self-motivated and target driven without needing someone standing over them
  • Builds long term accounts, not one-off orders
  • Commercially sharp, thinks in margin rather than just revenue
  • Delegates well and trusts their support rather than trying to do everything themselves
  • Flags problems early rather than hoping they resolve themselves
  • Credible in a corporate room
  • Diligent at entering in contacts and keeping CRM up to date

Also on offer:

  • Home based with flexible working arrangements
  • A dedicated Sales Support Coordinator so your time goes on selling
  • An established customer base to build on rather than a cold start
  • Uncapped commission, the tiers reward genuine over-performance
  • Reviews at 90 days and 6 months, with flexibility to adjust targets
  • Clear pathway as the Australian business grows
